“Oh no!’ says my mom with a very loud groan, when I show her the book that I want to take home. ‘There are more than a million good books here to try! Why is yours always about tractors Frank, why?”
And many a boy mom resonated!
For my little John Deere boy, there are never enough car, train, tractor and construction books to behold. I have read many on repeat, simply grateful that this high energy boy can be so enthralled with a piece of literature. I think reading with boys can often go this way… Starting with tractors was the first way we began reading with him, expanding only from tractors to eventually gardening or in the direction of boats to pirates. Now, he can long out read mom and dad’s attention span, combined! Vehicles might just be the gateway to a lifelong reader.
